FAQs

How do I arrange an initial consultation?

Please use the contact form on this website and I will be in touch with you within 48hrs to discuss your needs for therapy and arrange for an initial appointment.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

You do not need a GP or Psychiatry referral to make an appointment. However, if you are claiming through your private health insurance, a referral may be necessary.

What can I expect from the first appointment?

The first appointment is an opportunity to see if we could work together. During this session I aim to understand your current difficulties and your hopes for therapy. From here, I can make some recommendations as to the focus and length of therapy. Attending an initial consultation does not commit you to on-going therapy if you decide not to proceed further.

How often will my sessions be?

Therapy sessions are typically once a week on the same day at the same time. This enables me to keep this time just for you. On occasion, I offer bi-weekly sessions, and bi-monthly sessions for those approaching the end of therapy.

How long will I be in therapy for?

This depends on whether we agree to a short-term piece of work (6-20 sessions) or whether you prefer to explore longer-term options. I work flexibly with clients to suit their individual needs.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. I do not inform your GP or any other party about the content of your therapy sessions. Equally, your GP does not need to be informed that you have started therapy privately. The only circumstances in which I would breach confidentiality would be if I were concerned that you posed a risk to yourself or others. For these purposes, I ask for your GP details if we agree to work together.

*If you are receiving therapy for an eating disorder please note that, owing to possible physical health risks, I may need to inform your GP that you are in therapy with me.

What if I miss a session?

If you are unable to attend a session for any reason, I ask that you kindly give me a minimum of 48 business hours notice.

Sessions that are cancelled with less than 48 business hours notice will incur the full charge. Where possible, I will try and accommodate you in alternative time slot if you are unable to make your regular time.
